The Definitive Angle is PRO’s analysis of the week’s Video Review use in MLS.

Matchday 25 overview
There were two Video Review during Matchday 25.

RBNY vs NE: No goal (attacker handball)

Outcome: New England #9 [Leo Campana] committed an attacker handball offense in the process of scoring a goal.

The final decision was that the goal [for New England Revolution] was disallowed. Play restarted with a direct free kick [to New York Red Bulls].

Length of review: 2:15

PRO’s opinion: The ball hit Campana’s (NE) right arm as he attempted to head it, and it then rebounded back to him from Sean Nealis (RBNY) before the attacker scored. The referee was correct to disallow the goal for an attacker handball after video review.

SD vs TOR: Penalty kick

Outcome: After review, San Diego #22 [Franco Negri] fouled Toronto #7 [Theo Corbeanu] inside the penalty area.

The final decision was a penalty [to Toronto FC].

Length of Review: 1:59

PRO’s opinion: Negri (SD) was unsuccessful in playing the ball when he challenged Corbeanu (TOR) and instead made contact with the right knee of the attacker using his left foot, which forced him to ground. The referee correctly awarded a penalty kick after the video review.
