There were six Video Reviews during Matchday 15.

MIN vs RSL: No goal (offside)

Outcome: After review, Minnesota #29 [Mamadou Dieng] was in an offside position when the ball was passed to him by Minnesota #8 [Tomás Chancalay]. Minnesota #29 then interfered with play when he headed the ball prior to scoring a goal.

The final decision was offside and an indirect free kick [to Real Salt Lake].

Length of Review: 1:55

PRO’s opinion: At the moment the free kick was taken by Chancalay (MIN), Dieng (MIN) was in a clear offside position. The referee was correct to disallow the goal for the offside offense after video review.

DC vs MTL: Penalty kick

Outcome: After review, Montréal #9 [Prince Owusu] fouled D.C. #3 [Lucas Bartlett] inside the penalty area.

The final decision was a penalty kick [to D.C. United].

Length of Review: 2:14

PRO’s opinion: Owusu (MTL) had both arms around the body of Bartlett (DC) and pushed him using his body, forcing Bartlett to ground. The referee was correct to award a penalty kick after video review.

DC vs MTL: No penalty

Outcome: After review, D.C. #3 [Lucas Bartlett] did not commit a punishable handball offense inside the penalty area.

The final decision was no penalty.

Length of Review: 3:49

PRO’s opinion: The ball struck the body of Bartlett (DC) after it was headed by Efraín Morales (MTL), and it was not clear that it touched his left arm. Additionally, even if contact was made with the arm, it was close to his body and in a natural position. This review should not have been recommended because it was not a clear and obvious error.

DC vs MTL: Penalty kick

Outcome: After review, D.C. #6 [Keisuke Kurokawa] committed a punishable handball offense inside the penalty area.

The final decision was a penalty kick [to CF Montréal].

Length of Review: 1:27

PRO’s opinion: Kurokawa (DC) slid to block a shot from Owusu (MTL), and the ball struck his left arm, which was raised high and away from his body. The referee was correct to award a penalty kick after video review.

LA vs HOU: Goal

Outcome: After review, Los Angeles #2 [Miki Yamane] was in an onside position prior to Los Angeles #28 [Joseph Paintsil] scoring a goal.

MIA vs PHI: Penalty kick

Outcome: After review, Miami #3 [Sergio Reguilon] committed a punishable handball offense inside the penalty area.

The final decision was a penalty kick [to Philadelphia Union].

Length of Review: 2:41

PRO’s opinion: As Cavan Sullivan (PHI) attempted to pass the ball to a teammate, it struck Reguilon’s (MIA) left arm, which was extended away from his body, making him unnaturally bigger and creating a barrier. The referee was correct to award a penalty kick after video review.
