2023 MLS Cup crew confirmed

The crew for the 2023 MLS Cup on Saturday, December 9, has been announced. The showpiece game between Columbus Crew and Los Angeles Football Club will kick off at 4PM ET at Lower.com Field.

Meet the crew:


Armando Villarreal
Returns for his second MLS Cup as referee, having been in charge two years ago when New York City beat Portland Timbers. Was fourth official for 2014 MLS Cup and also refereed MLS All-Star in 2021. Has officiated more than 200 MLS regular-season games since his debut in 2012. Joined the FIFA international panel as a referee in 2015 and video match official in 2021.

Cameron Blanchard
This will be the second MLS Cup for the FIFA AR and his first on the field, having been AVAR four years ago. Worked 23 MLS regular-season games this year to take his career tally beyond 150 and was assistant referee for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final in September.

Ian McKay
The 2023 MLS Assistant Referee of the Year becomes the first person to progress from PRO2 to work the USL League One final (2019), the USL Championship final (2022) and MLS Cup. Was also assistant referee for MLS All-Star this year and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final in 2022. Now has more than 100 MLS regular-season games to his name since his debut in 2018.

Jon Freemon
Along with Villarreal, Freemon worked MLS All-Star in 2021, as VAR. This year, he has refereed 22 MLS regular-season games, was nominated for MLS Referee of the Year, and took charge of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final.

Kevin Stott
Back for an incredible seventh MLS Cup – six years to the day since his last, having refereed three (2001, 2005 and 2009) and been fourth official on three occasions (2000, 2006 and 2017).

TJ Zablocki
Was AVAR for MLS All-Star in July and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final in September. Officiated 37 MLS regular-season games as AVAR this year.

Jeremy Kieso
Joined the FIFA international panel in 2022 and worked 22 MLS regular-season games this year.
