PRO partners with Concacaf to deliver Video Review training

The Professional Referee Organization’s reputation as a global leader in Video Review has been bolstered by an agreement to provide advisory and training services to support Concacaf.

PRO and MLS will work together to deliver a training plan that will make sure officials from across the Concacaf region are fully trained and certified in compliance with The IFAB’s Video Review minimum requirements. The partnership will assist in the implementation of Video Review across all of the Confederation’s tournaments like the Concacaf Nations League and Concacaf Champions League, as well as FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The project will be overseen by members of PRO’s experienced team of instructors, supported logistically by MLS staff.

Twenty-three officials (seven referees and 16 VAR officials) will be provided with theoretical, offline and non-competitive live training modules. Using a number of simulated situations and staged matches in early January, they will progress to live testing in youth and friendly games from February onwards.

“We are honored and excited to be working with Concacaf on this project,” said PRO GM Howard Webb. “This is further testimony to the talent and commitment of our staff and validates the work we are doing in North America to raise officiating standards.

“We have seen a growing number of PRO officials operating as VARs in significant games on the world stage in recent years, and we look forward to passing on our knowledge and expertise to assist the development of Concacaf officials through this new Video Review support program.”

PRO will again be exhibiting at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Baltimore in mid-January, where visitors will be able to try their hand at the controls of Video Review.
