PRO’s opinion: Smolyakov (LAFC) was marking Olatunji (RSL) on a corner and before the ball was in play, the attacker made contact with the defender as he moved into his position to receive the ball. The referee did not see the contact. The VAR analyzed the available angles and determined that Olatunji had deliberately headbutted Smolyakov. The referee was correct to issue a red card for violent conduct after video review.
