The Definitive Angle is PRO’s analysis of the week’s Video Review use in NWSL.

Week 10 overview
There were two Video Reviews during Week 10.

SEA vs WAS: No goal (offside)

Outcome: After review, Washington #21 [Gift Monday] was in an offside position when Washington #4 [Rebeca Bernal] shot at goal. Washington #21 gained an advantage from being in an offside position when she scored.

The final decision was offside and an indirect free kick [to Seattle Reign].

Length of Review: 1:58

PRO’s opinion: When Bernal (WAS) shot at goal, and before Claudia Dickey (SEA) saved her shot, Monday (WAS) was in an offside position. The rebound then fell to Monday, who scored. By becoming involved in active play, Monday committed an offside offense, and the referee was correct to disallow the goal after a video review.

LA vs LOU: Penalty kick and red card (violent conduct)

Outcome: After review, Louisville #9 [Kayla Fischer] committed a violent conduct offense on Los Angeles #99 [Madison Hammond].

The final decision was a red card to Louisville #9 and penalty kick [to Angel City].

Length of review: 2:07

PRO’s opinion: Fischer (LOU) pulled Hammond’s (LA) hair and pushed her to the ground at the back post. The incident was not seen in real-time by the officiating crew, but the referee was correct to award a penalty kick after the video review and to show Fischer a red card for violent conduct.
