What happened: After review, Chicago #14 [Ludmila] committed an act of violent conduct on Washington #19 [Rosemonde Kouassi].

The final decision was a red card to Chicago #14 for violent conduct. Play restarted with a direct free kick [to Washington Spirit].

PRO’s opinion: Ludmila (CHI) pulled Kouassi’s (WAS) hair after the pair tussled following a challenge for the ball. In retaliation, Kouassi struck Ludmila’s back with her left fist. At this point, Ludmila turned and walked toward her opponent, and Kouassi moved her head forward without making contact.

The referee issued a red card to Kouassi for striking and a yellow card to Ludmila for bringing the game into disrepute. He was correct to upgrade the yellow card to a red card for violent conduct after video review.
