PRO Statement: SD vs LA II
The Professional Referee Organization (PRO) strongly condemns any form of discriminatory language or behavior on the field of play. On Wednesday, Sept. 23 in the San Diego Loyal Soccer Club vs. LA Galaxy II match, an official assigned by PRO heard a racial slur but failed to adequately report this observation to the lead official.
PRO empowers its officials to confidently take ownership of their responsibility to enforce a zero-tolerance policy with regard to racial abuse and use of racially insensitive language on the field, or any form of discriminatory behavior.
The referee involved has been removed from a subsequent assignment and will continue to receive education as a part of PRO’s ongoing commitment to hold referees at all levels accountable to combating racism in any form during competition.
