PRO supports MLS action after referee assault
The Professional Referee Organization supports the swift action of Major League Soccer after PRO referee Armando Villarreal was struck with a plastic cup during the Atlanta United match against Minnesota United on Tuesday, October 3.
The spectator, who was identified and removed from the stadium, has been charged with assault. In addition, MLS has banned the individual from attending future League matches.
PRO condemns the actions of any fan who endangers the wellbeing of a match official, and we commend MLS for ensuring a safe matchday work environment for PRO referees across all venues in MLS.
