The IFAB: Video Assistant Referee testing so far
The International Football Association Board – the independent guardian of Soccer’s Laws of the Game – have produced a video film highlighting the key stages of Video Assistant Referee testing so far, with PRO officials featuring heavily.
From the first workshop in the Netherlands, to the educating of referees on VAR in New Jersey; and live, in-game testing at the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2016 – the Organization has been at the forefront of VAR testing alongside MLS, FIFA and The IFAB.
PRO’s Mark Geiger, who refereed at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, was assigned as a Video Assistant Referee at the ground-breaking Club World Cup in Japan, and speaks proudly of his involvement.
“It’s been a fantastic expeirence to be part of this whole project,” he said at the tournament.
“There’s been a lot of anticipation and a lot of build-up for the VAR project so to be a part of this tournament [Club World Cup] and to be a part of the first game is really exciting for me.”
