The PRO2 Ladder

PRO2 A

PRO2 A is the premier rung in the PRO2 ladder. These officials have been carefully cultivated by PRO2 coaches and identified as the best prospects for potential promotion into MLS. PRO2 A officials may receive trial games in MLS to get a sample of officiating at the highest level in North America.

PRO2 B

PRO2 B is a carefully selected pool of officials who are very close to reaching the pinnacle of the PRO2 program. PRO2 B officials will receive careful consideration for assignment of high-profile games within NWSL, USL Championship and USL League One. All officials within PRO2 B must pass the FIFA Men’s fitness test.

PRO2 C

PRO2 C is the initial stepping stone out of the developmental tier and these officials receive careful consideration for assignment of games within NWSL, USL Championship and USL League One.
PRO2 C Referees must pass the FIFA Men’s fitness test for USL Championship eligibility and the FIFA Women’s fitness test for NWSL and USL League One eligibility.

PRO2 D

PRO2 D is considered a developmental group that is the entry level for scouted prospects that have been identified as having potential as professional referees. This is the genesis for the future of officiating in North America, and fitness test requirements mirror those of PRO2 C officials outlined above.
