There were three Video Reviews during Week 14.

ORL vs CHI: Penalty kick

Outcome: After review, Chicago #25 [Aaliyah Farmer] fouled Orlando #2 [Haley McCutcheon] inside the penalty area.

The final decision was a penalty kick [to Orlando Pride].

Length of Review: 3:26

PRO’s opinion: Farmer (CHI) failed in her attempt to play the ball and instead kicked the left foot of McCutcheon (ORL) and tripped her. The referee was correct to award a penalty kick after video review.

BOS vs KC: Red card (serious foul play)

Outcome: After review, Boston #10 [Ella Stevens] committed a serious foul play offense on Kansas City #27 [Kayla Sharples].

The final decision was a red card to Boston #10.

Length of Review: 1:59

PRO’s opinion: As both players jumped to challenge for an aerial ball from Bárbara Olivieri (BOS), Stevens (BOS) swung her left arm and made contact with her elbow on the face of Sharples (KC), causing her to fall to the ground. The referee was correct to rescind the caution for a reckless challenge and issue a red card for serious foul play after video review.

WAS vs DEN: No penalty

Outcome: After review, Washington #9 [Tara Rudd] and Washington #4 [Rebeca Bernal] did not foul Denver #10 [Lindsey Heaps] inside the penalty area.

The final decision was no penalty. Play restarted with a drop ball to Washington #18 [Sandy MacIver].

PRO’s opinion: Both Rudd (WAS) and Bernal (WAS) challenged Heaps (DEN) for possession inside the penalty area, and the referee awarded a penalty kick for a tripping foul. The VAR saw the coming together constituted normal soccer contact, and the referee concluded the attacker initiated the contact as she attempted to dribble to her left. He was correct to rescind the penalty after video review.
