This week’s Play of the week comes from the Playoff Knockout Round game between Houston Dynamo and Montreal Impact.
PRO Training & Development Paul Rejer explained: “This play features an excellent example of pro-active officiating that prevented a possible red card to a player.
“In the 87th minute, Andres Romero of Montreal commits violent conduct by kicking Houston’s Kofi Sarkodie from behind.
“Before he has time to react, AR1 CJ Morgante pushes Sarkodie away and isolates him from the confrontation that follows.
“His colleagues, referee Mark Geiger, AR2 Brian Dunn and 4th official Armando Villarreal resolve the confrontation and action is taken in the form of red cards to Romero and his team-mate Marco Di Vaio, for violent conduct.
“CJ’s prompt and timely intervention prevented a likely third dismissal, of Kofi Sarkodie.”
