PRO Training & Development Manager Paul Rejer reflects on a decision during the FC Dallas against Vancouver Whitecaps match from Saturday April 20th, when the ball crossed the line for a goal in the first half, in week 8’s Play of the week.
Paul explained: “This play highlights the importance of an Assistant Referee being in the correct position to make an accurate judgment.
“The ball crosses the line but is cleared in a split second. If the AR is in any other position, apart from the goal-line, he will not be able to make the call.
“Instead, he would have to take a guess, and we instruct officials never to do that – only give what you see is the message.
“The AR was perfectly positioned and consequently made the correct decision to award the goal.”
